Visitor Info

Cartmel is famous for so many things and has so much to offer visitors. Here are some of the many things to do during your visit both in and around Cartmel.

  • Take a stroll around Cartmel village and visit its fabulous shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. See the Cartmel village website for more information about Unsworth Yard Brewery, Cartmel Drinkshop and Wine Snug, Cavendish Arms, Cartmel Cheeses, Mallards Nest Tea rooms, Cartmel Coffee, Hales of Cartmel and much more.
  • Famous Sticky Toffee Pudding. Cartmel Village Shop is the home of the award-winning Sticky Toffee Pudding.
  • Visit Cartmel Priory founded in 1189. Stunning architecture can be seen and it’s fascinating history uncovered.
  • Book a day at the races. Cartmel racecourse offers lots of fun with racing fixtures and an annual music concert.
  • Eat in a Michelin-starred restaurant. Chef Simon Rogan offers a unique eating experience at L’Enclume and Rogan & Co which are both located just steps away from Tower House apartments.
  • Take a walk. Several good walks can be accessed directly from Cartmel village. Hampsfell takes you up to a high point with breathtaking panoramic views of Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland hills and mountains. For more information see Wainwright Routes.
Stroll through the woodland beyond the racecourse. Extend this with a 2 mile circular walk to Holker Hall, the home of the Cavendish family.
  • Visit nearby Holker Hall. This is a personal favourite of ours. Leaflets and menus for Holker Hall, beautiful gardens, Courtyard café and local produce food hall are available in both flats. You can spend an afternoon wandering through the delightful formal and informal gardens and parkland or view the historic Hall itself. Visit the Holker Hall website to see the full range of everything on offer.
  • Windermere cruise from Lakeside. Only 8 miles from Cartmel it is easy to explore Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness by boat. Add on a steam train journey from Haverthwaite to add an air of nostalgia.
  • Pamper yourself at Park Lane beauty salon. Situated in the centre of the village Park Lane offers a wide range of beauty treatments where you can take time out and relax.
  • For a special treat or occasion the Friesian Experience offers a variety of experiences with their stunning black Friesian horses including carriage rides around Cartmel.
  • We are fortunate also to have nearby the fantastic Predator Experience where you can book an unforgettable encounter walking with wolves or an interactive experience with birds of prey.
  • If you enjoy horse riding then pony trekking and trail rides are available at nearby Bigland Hall.
  • There are 2 golf courses at nearby Grange-over-Sands. The Grange Fell Golf Club is a 9 hole course with fantastic views overlooking the Morecambe Bay estuary while the Grange over Sands Golf Club is an 18 hole course on a level site.
